Formaggio Kitchen has been an institution in Cambridge, Massachusetts for over 40 years –“a gourmand’s paradise” doubling as a neighborhood grocer. Nationally, we are best known for our cheese selection, which includes many exclusive items imported directly from farms in Europe. Locally, we are equally well known for our kitchen and bakery production including sandwiches, panini and nightly dinners as well as cakes, cookies and a variety of other sweets – all made in house, from scratch and using the best (often local) ingredients. We also stock a wide range of other delicious foodstuffs, including: charcuterie, produce, baked goods, prepared foods, coffee, tea, chocolates, bread, sweets, honey, preserves, wine, beer, olive oil, vinegar and other pantry staples.

Current Openings at Huron Village:

Full-time Baker

Formaggio Kitchen is looking for a passionate and experienced full-time baker to join our team! Formaggio Kitchen bakers turn out a variety of baked goods and sweet treats every day, from cookies and croissants to custom cakes and holiday pies. We are looking for a second-shift baker to work independently and continue production tasks for our growing department.

Responsibilities include:
  • Completing bake-off including making breads, doughs, baking croissants and finishing cakes
  • Producing our bakery staples such as bread pudding, seasonal crisps, cookies, brownies, granola, and more. 
  • Collaborating with our head baker with recipe testing and ideas
  • Assisting in putting away deliveries
  • Helping to maintain a clean and orderly kitchen
Qualifications:
  • Candidates must have at least one year of high production experience and be able to work independently
  • Proficiency with bake-offs, doughs, and finishing products
  • Open availability, including weekends and a commitment to a busy holiday production schedule
  • A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and positive attitude are a must
  • This is a very physically demanding position. Must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly.

COMPENSATION: This position is hourly, commensurate with experience, $18.00 - $22.00/hr

Barista / Pastry Counter

Formaggio Kitchen is looking for hospitality rock-stars to staff our pastry counter. The pastry counter supports our bakers by packaging and selling all of our fresh baked goods. The pastry counter also makes and serves coffee, receives deliveries of sweets to supplement our in-house pastries, and acts as morning cashiers for our “breakfast bar.”

Staff are expected to become knowledgeable about our bakery menu and store inventory in order to field an array of customer requests. Key characteristics we are seeking include excellent customer service, thoughtful organization, effective communication, great team spirit, and strong work ethic.
 
Requirements/ Skills needed:
  • Excellent customer service
  • Great multitasker
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to focus
  • Works well as part of a small team
  • Good at following procedures all the way through, in order
  • The physical ability to stand, crouch, and lift objects (~20lbs, up and down stairs) throughout a standard workday
The ideal candidate is passionate and curious about food (particularly sweets) and hospitality.

Prior experience in a cafe, retail, or hospitality setting is preferred but not required. By demonstrating accomplishments and dedication, there is room to grow into a member of our retail buying or leadership teams.

COMPENSATION: This position is hourly, varies depending on experience, $16 - 18/hr

Front of House Supervisor

Our Front of House team of cashiers provides knowledgeable and efficient service to our customers, every day! As a Supervisor you will be required to:
  • Open the shop in the morning and/or close the shop at night
  • Handle customer complaints, returns, requests
  • Recognize what needs to be done/stocked in each part of the store. Compile a list of tasks and delegate
  • Understand and enforce store policies
  • Be able to react calmly in emergency situations
We have both part-time and full-time positions available, with a strong preference for weekend availability. Applicants must be friendly and hard-working.
 
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2 years of retail or restaurant experience
  • Extensive food knowledge and a thirst for learning
  • Exemplary customer service
Compensation: This position is hourly, $19-$21/hour, commensurate with experience
