Nationally, we are best known for our cheese selection, which includes many exclusive items imported directly from farms in Europe. Locally, we are equally well known for our kitchen and bakery production including sandwiches, panini and nightly dinners as well as cakes, cookies and a variety of other sweets – all made in house, from scratch and using the best (often local) ingredients. HURON VILLAGE LOCATION

Kitchen Production Manager

Passionate about food and looking for daytime hours? Join our kitchen team! We are looking for an ambitious, experienced candidate to lead our kitchen production team, which puts out food made from our internationally sourced specialty ingredients and locally sourced produce and meats. From family-style ready-to-heat meals to delicious dips, dressings and spreads, we aim to provide our customers with an exceptional culinary experience. 

Daily duties will include: 

      • Oversee frozen prepared foods production 
      • Oversee daily sandwich and salad production and monitor for quality control
      • Help control pars, costing, and consistency in all prepared food items, including salads and sandwiches
      • Develop new prepared foods standards and practices for grab-and-go meals
      • Develop new, rotating sandwich menu
      • Train staff to meet these standards of execution
      • Inventory prepared foods
      • Help plan the vision and promotion of our in-house offerings
      • Assist the head chef and sous chef in executing the vital functions of our daily kitchen


There will be many other options for creative development and a great deal of this position will be dictated by the growing needs of the shop. By establishing a foundation of structure and consistency, we can develop and implement new ideas that honor our standards.

Assistant Cheese Buyer

We are looking for a full-time cheesemonger, with prior retail experience preferred, to work closely with existing staff to help us provide delicious cheese and exceptional service to our customers. This cheesemonger will work with the Head Cheese Buyer to source, curate, and promote our selection of cheeses, representing the company in our relationships with cheesemakers.

As a cheesemonger, you not only have access to 200-300 different types of cheeses (many of them exclusive to us in the US), you also have access to hundreds of other specialty products that have been hand selected by our lead buyers from across the globe. With over 40 years of experience in the industry, Formaggio Kitchen has developed close relationships with producers domestically and abroad which allows our cheesemongers unmatched access to their expertise. As a company we encourage staff to take ownership of ideas and initiatives, and we are committed to providing support and resources to allow our staff to achieve their goals. Baker

Formaggio Kitchen is looking for a full-time Baker! This is a full-time position with potential to grow with Formaggio Kitchen. Our bakers generally start their day at 4am.

Responsibilities include:

      • Completing the morning bake-off including making scones, baking croissants and muffins
      • Producing our bakery staples such as bread pudding, seasonal crisps, cookies, brownies, granola, and more.
      • Collaborating with our head baker with recipe testing and ideas
      • Assisting in putting away deliveries
      • Helping maintain a clean and orderly kitchen

Ideal candidates will have:

      • Some baking experience is required
      • Open availability, including weekends and holidays

Front of House Manager and Buyer

We are looking for hospitality rock-stars to join our team in front of house, management-track positions.

Responsibilities include:

      • Staff the bread and bakery counters
      • Maintain the appearance of the shop

      • Provides our customers with a smooth and pleasant shopping experience
      • FOH staff are expected to become knowledgeable about store inventory and producers in order to field an array of customer requests

Stockist

We work hard to bring our customers the best products from around the world with exemplary service. This work ethic is equally essential whether stocking shelves, mongering cheese or making deliveries. We are in need of a stock keeper with full-time availability Monday through Friday. There are opportunities as well for part-time and weekend work, but regular availability is required. Tasks will include daily restocking of store shelves, receiving shipments of product to our shop, as well as assisting with order taking and running as needed.

Also important are strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with all members of our team. Weekend availability is a must.

Butcher Counter Staff/Meat Cutter

We are currently seeking a full-time butcher and meat cutters to join our kitchen team. This individual will join a professional team committed to excellence and consistency within a fast-paced retail setting. Our butcher counter works primarily with whole animals; this position will be an opportunity to learn whole-animal butchery. Candidates are not expected to have mastered this in prior experience.

The butcher counter staff will assist customers in purchasing meat and maintain the quality and appearance of the butcher case. In addition, the staff will organize and clean the work area and walk-in fridge. Staff will be expected to know the different cuts and sausages we carry and make recommendations based on that knowledge, as well as modifying cuts to customer specifications.

The ideal candidate will have at least one year’s butcher counter experience, but we are also willing to teach the right person. Candidates will possess a strong work ethic and take direction well. Great customer service, communication skills, knife skills, and the ability to work cleanly and quickly are a must. Successful candidates will also demonstrate attention to detail and willingness to learn. ServSafe certification is a plus. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Produce Team Member

Our produce department works with many small farms both in California and within New England. We focus on organic and sustainably grown fruits and vegetables, and work hard to source the best produce available and sell it in the best condition possible.

Typical daily tasks include stocking, culling, receiving deliveries, placing orders, and assisting customers with produce questions.

 SOUTH END BOSTON LOCATION

Shift Supervisor/Cheesemonger

Formaggio Kitchen South End, Boston’s best cheese store, is looking for a friendly and enthusiastic part time Cheesemonger/ Shift Supervisor.

As a member our cheesemonger team you will be asked to:

  • Learn our selection of cheeses, meats and dry goods as well as basic cheesemaking techniques, pasteurization laws, and how to store cheeses. 
  • Help customers at the cheese and deli counters, on the floor, and on the phone. 
  • Accurately cut cheeses and meats to order. 
  • Care for and neatly wrap our cheeses. 
  • Be able to work the cash register whenever needed.
  • Help stock products on the floor of the store. 
  • Learn our beer and wine selections, as well as basic knowledge of the styles and production of both. 
  • Strive to keep the store clean, sanitary and organized. 

As a Supervisor you will also be required to:

  • Handle Customer complaints, returns, requests
  • Recognize what needs to be done/stocked in each part of the store. Compile a list of tasks and delegate those tasks. 
  • Understand and enforce store policies.
  • Be able to react calmly in emergency situations. 
  • Work in any part of the store, and to train new staff in all areas.
  • Participate in the buying of products for the store by becoming a purchaser for domestic vendors. 
  • Open the shop in the morning and/or close the shop at night.

We are looking for a cashier who can work a minimum of one shift on either Saturdays or Sundays. There is also opportunity for more hours during the weekdays. 

Responsibilities include:

        • Accurately ringing up customer orders and bag them.
        • Learning about our product selection so as to help answer customer questions.
        • Keeping the front station clean and organized.
        • Pricing, packaging, and stocking dry goods.
        • Making, bottling, and labeling housemade iced teas.  
        • Setting up in the morning and/or closing up at night under a manager's supervision.

Assistant Catering Manager

Our catering team produces beautifully arranged platters and food made from our internationally sourced, specialty ingredients, and locally sourced produce and meats. From bountiful cheese platters to baked lasagne to decadent desserts, we aim to provide our customers with an exceptional culinary experience. We also regularly create and stock a variety of gourmet sandwiches, salads and ready-to-heat meals for in store customers at our new Huron Ave location.

This position will be responsible for working in all aspects of our catering operations and kitchen production including:

        • Preparing platters
        • Creating an assortment of fresh salads for a grab-n-go case
        • Creating the delivery schedule
        • Taking catering orders
        • Managing ingredient stock
        • Inventory and re-stock of prepared foods for freezer and cold case
        • Production of entrees, sauces, and sides for retail freezer case
