Agen prunes are the dried fruit of the Ente plum tree that grows in the Aquitaine region of France. They take their name from the town of Agen, located on the Garonne river, which was an important port for the movement of the dried fruits throughout France and the rest of Europe.
These prunes are name protected by the European Union as I.G.P. (Indicated Geographic Protection) and are strictly regulated for quality throughout the production process. Fully dried Agen prunes will have a moisture content of about 23%. These prunes have been rehydrated to 35% moisture content so they have a wonderfully rich texture.
The prunes are pitted and are incredibly easy to use in a variety of dishes. We love to keep a package on hand for an easy addition to our stews, or roasts.
