Brooklyn Slate company is a family operation from the slate quarries in New York state and Vermont to the hand-finishing done in their Brooklyn studio. While the slates are consistenly sized, each one has its own distinct coloring and texture which creates a beautiful and rustic stage for a collection of your favorite cheeses.
Each slate comes with cork pads to cushion the bottom of the slate, a piece of soapstone chalk to write on the slate and a burlap bag for safe storage.

The Brooklyn Slate Company is a collaborative effort of graphic designer, Sean Tice, and Parsons graduate student, Kristy Hadeka. After visiting Kristy's family slate quarry in upstate New York in the spring of 2009, they realized the stone had multiple uses - as trivets for tea kettles and hot dishes, to coasters for beers - and began gifting pieces to friends. The response was so overwhelming they decided to produce a line of slate products. Based in Red Hook, Brooklyn, they continue to source their slate from Kristy's family quarry. The pieces are then brought back to Brooklyn where they are hand-finished, a process that involves further cutting and cleaning to make the items food safe. As a result of this hand-finishing, each piece is unique.
