Antebellum White Grits, Anson Mills - 1 lb.
Anson Mills, located in Columbia, South Carolina, is focused on helping farmers throughout the country develop diversified crops that put flavor over efficiency. In particular, they work closely with Southern Farms to maintain the traditional foodways of the American south.
Anson Mills Antebellum white coarse grits are produced from field ripened Carolina Gourdseed corn, prized for exceptional flavor and, until recently, nearly extinct. These are coarse grits with fresh germ and meal separated, sifted, cleaned and mixed by hand to preserve the fresh corn flavor, texture, nutrients and richness.
Anson Mills grits are perishable and must be refrigerated or frozen. Fresh grits require less liquid for cooking: 1 Grits to 2 1/2 Liquid. Cook Time: 1-2 Hrs Low Heat with occasional stirring. For your first recipe, just add some good butter and salt. After that - you can get creative by adding other favorite ingredients such as shrimp or bacon (or shrimp and bacon!).
