Tasmanian pepper is also known as mountain pepper or native pepper, and is grown mostly in Tasmania. It also grows in the Australian states of Victoria and New South Wales. Rarely found outside of Australia, we sought out these peppercorns for their uniquely sweet flavor. They are harvested from the Tasmania lanceolata plant, unlike regular black, white, and green peppercorns, which come from the Piper nigrum plant.
The skin of Tasmanian peppercorns is wrinkled, and softer than other peppercorns. As such, it may gum up a typical pepper grinder and works best with a mortar and pestle. This pepper is packed in a two-ounce container.
