Formaggio Kitchen has been an institution in Cambridge, Massachusetts for over 40 years–“a gourmand’s paradise” doubling as a neighborhood grocer. Nationally, we are best known for our cheese selection, which includes many exclusive items imported directly from farms in Europe. Locally, we are equally well known for our kitchen and bakery production including sandwiches, panini and nightly dinners as well as cakes, cookies and a variety of other sweets – all made in house, from scratch and using the best (often local) ingredients. We also stock a wide range of other delicious foodstuffs, including: charcuterie, produce, baked goods, prepared foods, coffee, tea, chocolates, bread, sweets, honey, preserves, wine, beer, olive oil, vinegar and other pantry staples.

We are looking for full-time experienced cheesemongers to work closely with existing staff to learn the ropes and help us provide delicious cheese and exceptional service to our customers. These positions are available at our Huron Ave. and Kendall Square locations.

A full-time Cheesemonger work schedule requires flexibility to work nights and weekends. E-Commerce Manager

We are currently in search of a qualified individual to manage our national online presence and e-commerce activities. This position will be a blend of responsibilities including management of our e-commerce and mail order programs as well as as well as participating in some of the day to day retail operations of the store. This position requires at least 2 years managing sales and development for an e-commerce presence.

  • Picking, packing and shipping orders;
  • Interacting with customers via email and telephone to help drive sales and address issues;
  • Organizing promotions, including email creation, social media and content marketing;
  • Managing shipping companies and supply companies to reduce operational costs;
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting website operations;
  • Conveying a consistent brand image that attracts customers by encouraging sales on the Website;
  • Managing web design and software development to meet customer needs, encourage engagement and contribute to overall business success.

Preferred candidates will have a:

  • Passion for specialty food and a drive to eat, drink, taste and learn;
  • Firm grasp of web design principles and implementation best practices;
  • Strong understanding of how to use Google Analytics to guide business decisions;
  • Familiarity with SEM and SEO and how to integrate the latest effective approaches throughout our online environment for greatest impact;

This is a full-time position with a Monday - Friday schedule. Please note this is only available as an on-site position, no remote work is available. Due to the 24/7 nature of e-commerce, the e-commerce business manager will need to be available to address any urgent website issues as they arise (e.g. site outage, hacking or other issues preventing successful transactions).

Assistant Baker

Our bakery produces a wide range of cookies, cakes, scones, muffins, pies and petite pastries. We are currently looking for a bakery assistant who will assist our head baker with the weekly production. Shifts will be Tuesday mornings, Saturday mornings and Sunday mornings.

This position could be part-time and exclusively bakery production or a full-time arrangement where the remaining hours not spent in production could be spent as on our retail floor.

Our ideal candidate will have at least a year's worth of professional baking experience, a passion for food, a strong work ethic, and be self-motivated.

Produce Team Member

Our produce department works with many small farms both in California and within New England. We focus on organic and sustainably grown fruits and vegetables, and work hard to source the best produce available and sell it in the best condition possible. We are looking for someone who loves good produce and loves providing exceptional customer service. Ideal candidates will have familiarity with retail produce, cooking, or farming as well as a drive to learn more. This is a full-time position. Applicants must have full time holiday and weekend availability.

Front of House

We are looking for hospitality rock-stars to join our team in a front of house position. The front of house team staffs the bread and bakery counters, maintains the appearance of the shop, assists with store operations, and provides our customers with a smooth shopping experience.

FOH staff are expected to become knowledgeable about store inventory and producers in order to field an array of customer requests. Key characteristics we are seeking include excellent customer service, thoughtful organization, effective communication, great team spirit, and strong work ethic.

The ideal candidate is passionate and curious about food and hospitality.

Prior experience in a retail or hospitality setting is preferred but not required. By demonstrating accomplishments and dedication, there is room to grow into a member of our buying teams.

Administrative Assistant

We are looking for an organizational rock-star to join our team as an administrative assistant. The ideal candidate is a team-player and a quick learner with enthusiasm for food, great attention to detail, and an excellent work ethic. Top notch organizational skills, exceptional customer service and experience with Microsoft Office and Google tools are a must. Extra points for IT troubleshooting experience!

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing knowledge of the products and services we offer
  • Fielding customer inquiries and orders on the phone, speaking clearly, professionally and in a friendly manner.
  • Updating daily menu and managing order taking systems and processes
  • Managing store supplies including buying and tracking stock levels
  • Data entry and filing
  • Creating spreadsheet reports for store management
  • Receiving supplies and organizing storage
  • Managing local gift orders from start to finish
  • Supporting IT staff as needed
  • Other administrative duties as assigned
  • Lifting boxes of product and supplies weighing 20-30lbs

This is a temporary position for maternity leave coverage, but successful hires will be offered a permanent position to grow our gift basket program and continue administrative duties.

Kitchen Production Assistant

Daily duties will include:

  • Creating an assortment of fresh salads for a grab-n-go case.
  • Inventory and re-stock of prepared foods for freezer and cold case.
  • Production of entrees, sauces and sides for retail freezer case.

Examples of production tasks include:

  • Basic prep (breaking down produce, cutting onions etc.).
  • Following recipes to create basic sauces, dips and salads.
  • Assembly of entrees, packaging of dips, spreads, salads and other retail products.

Solid knife skills are a plus.

Applicant must be detail oriented, good at following instructions and a good communicator.

A sense of urgency is a must.

Schedule most likely to be Tuesday through Saturday.
