Formaggio Kitchen has been an institution in Cambridge, Massachusetts for over 40 years–“a gourmand’s paradise” doubling as a neighborhood grocer. This position will manage our catering team, which produces beautifully arranged and tasty platters full of the products we sell in the shop, as well as oversee the prepared foods team.
Our kitchen produces a variety of hot and cold prepared foods everyday, from our daily sandwich board, to our cold case salads, our soups and our popular take-home dinner options. The chef in this position will not only execute the classic recipes on which we have built our reputation, but also have the creative liberty to oversee an array of prepared foods, using the high-quality ingredients we sell in our shop. We are looking for someone with both culinary and leadership skills.
Daily tasks will include all aspects of catering operations including production, ingredient and supply stock management, customer service and order processing. This position will help run the kitchen in line with health, safety and food hygiene regulations; plan and develop menus to increase sales; plan and execute holiday menus; maintain retail product inventory; and cater for special diets and nutritional needs.
The most important requirements for success in this role are:
- Demonstrated culinary skills with a minimum of 2 years experience in the field

- ServSafe certification is a plus.

Produce Assistant Manager
Our produce department works with many small farms both in California and within New England. We focus on organic and sustainably grown fruits and vegetables, and work hard to source the best produce available and sell it in the best condition possible. We are looking for someone who loves good produce and loves providing exceptional customer service. Ideal candidates will have familiarity with retail produce, cooking, or farming as well as a drive to learn more. This is a full-time position, but part-time interest is also welcome. Applicants must have weekend availability.
Front-of-House Staff (full- and part-time)
We are looking for hospitality rock-stars to join our team in a front of house position. The front of house team staffs the bread and bakery counters, maintains the appearance of the shop, assists with store operations, and provides our customers with a smooth and pleasant shopping experience. FOH staff are expected to become knowledgeable about store inventory and producers in order to field an array of customer requests. Key characteristics we are seeking include excellent customer service, thoughtful organization, effective communication, great team spirit, and strong work ethic. The ideal candidate is passionate and curious about food and hospitality. Prior experience in a retail or hospitality setting is preferred but not required. By demonstrating accomplishments and dedication, there is room to grow into a member of our buying teams.

Mail Order Supervisor

Formaggio Kitchen is one of the premier specialty food retailers in the US and has been operating since 1978 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Formaggio Kitchen's online business is growing and we are looking for a hard-working candidate with great attention to detail, a passion for food and top-notch customer service skills to fill a hybrid role working with both our brick-and-mortar businesses and our online business. This position will primarily be responsible for day-to-day operations of our mail order and ecommerce order processing but will additionally contribute to the day-to-day retail operations of the store. This position will report to the E-commerce manager and will handle a range to tasks, from order picking, packing, and processing, to front-of-house work and collaboration on marketing materials.
Daily tasks may include:
- Picking, packing and shipping orders;
- Interacting with customers via email and telephone to help drive sales and address issues;
- Processing orders on our website and in our retail management system;
- Supporting marketing initiatives (email, social media, etc.) to enhance our online and mail order business under guidance of the ecommerce business manager;
- Supervising seasonal staff;
- Front of house sales.

A full-time Cheesemonger work schedule requires flexibility to work nights and weekends. Ideal candidates will work quickly, efficiently, and independently to hand-wash and machine-wash dishes, as well as maintain the cleanliness of our kitchen. This is a great position for someone interested in joining our back of house operations part-time.
