Turkey - Formaggio Kitchen


Formaggio Kitchen’s connection to Turkey is most immediately through its owner Ihsan Gurdal who grew up in Istanbul before travelling to the U.S. for his university studies (and volleyball). In other ways, Turkey is connected to Formaggio Kitchen in its history of food from the ancient markets to its spice trade and its numerous traditional food preparations that have directly and indirectly influenced cuisines all over the world.

Our most popular imports from Turkey are the dried and crushed peppers from Maraş and Urfa. Our travelogue of these regions offers a glimpse of the traditional methods of production as well as some of the varieties one might find winding through the markets of Istanbul.
