Dario Pozzolo has become a leader in the world community of honey producers by working with Slow Food to encourage artisan apiarists to follow sustainable agricultural practices.
Dario is based in the town of Bra, Italy, and transports his hives all over the surrounding territory of the Roero following the blooms that he wants for his varietal honeys.
His Acacia is a beautifully light honey with a clear straw color and a liquid consistency. It has correspondingly light flavors of flowers and citrus. We love this honey when we want a touch of sweetness in our tea.
Apicoltura Pozzolo Dario
IOn a recent trip to the Piedmont region of Italy, Ihsan visited with several of our old friends, including Matteo Ascheri (who you may have read about in our November 2006 newsletter).
As is often the case, Matteo introduced us to a couple of wonderful honey producers from the region: Dario Pozzolo and Turco Floriano.
The hills and mountains surrounding Bra are where Dario brings his hives to collect the pollen from a variety of blossoms including rhododendron, acacia, castagno (chestnut), tarassaco (dandelion), and melata di bosco.
Dario is known not only for his amazing varietal honeys but also for his contributions to the Slow Food movement and the preservation of artisanal honey harvesting worldwide.
